Intro to Lab Equipment

!

Balance (scale) , also known as a Triple Beam Scale

is used to weigh the mass of materials using three

beams which eachhold a different weight.

A watch glass is a circular, slightly piece of glass

used in chemistryas a surface to evaporate

a liquid, or as a cover for a beaker.

A dropper glass tube with a hollow rubber bulb at one

end and a small opening at the other, for drawing in

a liquid and expelling it in drops; medicine dropper.

Funnel is a cone-shaped utensil with a tube at the apex for
conducting liquid or other substance through a small
opening,as into a bottle, jug, or the like.

Wash Bottle is a flexible squeeze-bottle with delivery tube, or a bottle
having two tubes through the cork, so arranged that blowing into
one will force a stream of liquid from the other; used in washing
chemical materials. 2. a bottle containing some washing fluid,
through which gases are passed for the purpose
of freeing them from impurities.

Test Tubeis a tube of thin glass closed at one end, used for
various procedures in chemistry and for
the growth of bacterial or viral cultures.
The test tube holder is the holder made out of wire in your lab
drawer. You hold it in your hand and squeeze on the handles
to open the other end, into which you then insert a test tube.
This small piece of equipment does nothing except hold test tubes.

The clay triangle is used to hold a crucible while the crucible is heated.

Pipets are used make precise measurements and to
transfer liquids.

Erlenmeyer flasks are used to mix, store, or heat solutions or other liquids.

A graduated cylinder is used for more precise volume
measurements.
A stirring rod is used to mix solutions and other substances.
A spatula can be used to remove a sample from the weighing bottle
and the sample placed directly into the flask.
An iron ring clamp is an iron ring with a clamp that holds glassware
such as a funnel or other objects, such as a wire gauze
or clay triangle for heating with a bunsen burner.
Evaporation, in a technical sense, denotes the conversion of a

liquid into a vapor for the purpose of separating it from another

liquid of higher boiling point.

A rubber stopper is used to seal contents into a container.

Test tube racks are used to hold test tubes during experiments or storage.

Crucible tongs are used for picking up hot or
otherwise hazardous material containing vessels.
Utility Clamp is used to secure glassware and other equipment.
A buret is used for delivering the second reactant to the
flask and an indicator or pH Meter is used to
detect the endpoint of the reaction.
A beaker is used for just about anything in a lab.
A Florence flask is used to heat liquids that need to be
heated evenly.
Goggles are used to protect your eyes in the lab area.
Forceps are used to grasp/hold small items, they are often
used in dissection.

When placed between glassware and a heat source,
wire gauze allows for more even and gradual heating of glassware

Ringstand used to hold glassware in
place during an experimental procedure
Evaporating dish isused to heat
and evaporate liquids
A pestle is a tool used to crush, mash or grind materials in a mortar

Test tube brush is used to clean small diameter

 test tubes.

Crucibles are used to heat substances in the
chemistry lab.

Buret Clamps hold valuable laboratory so procedures are
always safely done.

Bunsen Burners are used to heat substances in the lab.

Beaker Tongs are used to grasp/hold items
like test tubes and beakers.
A volumetric flask is used to measure
very precisely one specific volume of liquid.
